hey!!
i'm so so so so sorryyyyyyyyyyyyy that i haven't written anything for ages. getting the internet here has been almost impossible, but one the teachers has lent us his old laptop to use which is great. anyhow...... i have arrived safely in edinburgh and my school. the other gappies are cool, especially the girl, livy. she is exactly the kind of person i would be friends with by choice if she was at my school or whatever. totally crazy. the school is teeny weeny. i already know the names of all the girls in junior house (school is divided into junior house, and the two senior houses mac house (boys) and erskin (girls). senior isn't really senior, its forms 5 and 6 which are like 12 and 13 year olds. anyway, i know the names of all the girls in junior house, about half the boys of junior house, and most of the girls in erskin house, as well as all the pre-preps. give me a couple more weeks and i should know almost everybody, i think. except day pupils perhaps.
our days are really busy... i get up at 6:30 so i can wake the kids up at 7:20 and i finish duty at 9 (every second day, otherwise it's 5:50). some days i get quite a few rests in between, and some days i get like half an hour all up. gahh. i haven't found it too cold... i don't know what all u other gappies are complaining about. i'm about 3 degrees colder than london on most days (sometimes less, sometimes more). this week is pretty good actually. its -1, 1, 2 degrees (min). obviously at night it's freezing though.
i was meant to receive a netbook (a very small, very portable notebook) a few days ago, and i was so excited, but nooooo the stupid company said you can't order one using an australian bank account and get it sent to the uk so i need to wait for my uk bank account to be set up which could take FOREVER at the rate the things get done at this school. hopefully i can get it relatively soon though, because otherwise getting the internet is too hard. i'm currently in the staff room, which is obviously abandoned at 11pm at night. this is my only chance. i'm depriving myself of sleep just so you can know my comings and goings, aren't i thoughtful? anyhow. sorry if i sound a bit mad, i'm tired lol.
um... what else is there. oh yes, the kids are great (mostly), but they are all obsessed with last year's gappies, particularly a girl called miss spillane. apparently, she was very pretty, and very fashionable, and spoilt them rotten, and all the senior boys were in love with her, and she wore short skirts, and she flirted with the teacher's sons and she got into a bit of trouble....... but the kids adored her. it's kinda hard being compared that that... constantly. but it's alright, from now on i plan to wear short skirts and do alot more flirting. KIDDING. i could never do that. anywayyyyyy. oh there was a kid in senior house, though, that was chatting up livy and i (gappies names are livy, hugo and sam) on the first night we got here. seriously. he said 'what's your name' and i said 'miss brake' and he said, 'yeah, but what's your first name, you know, to call you when the other teachers aren't around....' and i was like 'my name's jessica, but you had better call me miss brake all the time' and then he went to livy ' what's your name?' and she was like.... 'err.... it's livy'. and was like 'oh, that's such a nice name'. and so livy and i were like ok.......
anyhow. sorry, i ramble so much. i think i will win the award for longest email. easily. oh yeah, and there is so much food here. they eat like non-stop. the kids are all really fit though, very very few overweight kids, because they all do so much sport. everyafternoon they have 'games' which is like hockey or netball or whatever, and they runaround all lunchtime, so no-wonder they have to feed them nonstop. straight after dinner they have 'milk and buns' which is like milk and fruit and a donut or cookie. STRAIGHT AFTER DINNER!!! i was talking to a teacher earlier and he said he guessed miss spillane put on 15kg during the year. but lost most of it by the end. 15kggggggg omggggggggggggg. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
our school is SURROUNDED by horse paddocks. it is such torture for me.... i can't bear it. i think i will have to go horse riding once a month on my day off... i have a day off every week but i can't afford it. omg, and i have spent SO much money already. i have gone wayyyy over budget. oops.
this sat we're going to a burns night celebration, at a nearby highschool. it is with all the seniors, so that's 18 year olds yipee. should be fun. dancing and singing and eating and such. haggis... yum... not really. i ate it when i stayed in edinburgh for breakfast. it tastes like the meat filling of a really cheap meat pie. ugh.
anyway..... I NEED SLEEP. hopefully i've satisfied your curiosity as to what has happened to me. for all my spelling and grammatical mistakes, i am truly sorry. there must be thousands... anywho.
oh and i'm losing my australian accent. i think. some words in particular sound very english. hee hee. ohhh and i got a mobile phone!!! it's purple. when i next write an email i'll try and remember to bring my phone so i can give u my number.
um.... yeah i could talk for hours. but i shall leave it at this. DON'T FORGET TO EMAIL THIS TO OTHER PPL BECAUSE I DONT' HAVE TIME TO SEARCH FOR ADDRESSES.
