*Note: ... this is a little late =P*
A few weeks ago the headmaster announced during assembly that the four gappies had kindly volunteered to organise an Australia Day Assembly for the kids. And the four of us looked at each other and thought 'What?!'
Anyway, after weeks of preparation and rehearsals (ie, we did it the a few nights before) we turned up on a Wednesday morning wearing the lovely outfits you see below.
We started off (after parading in to Waltzing Matilda and waving our flags) with an Australian Things Trivia Quiz, asking the children to identify things famous Australian animals, actresses, landmarks etc. Poor old Johnny... not one person recognised our ex-Prime Minister. Not even the teachers!!!
Livy and I looking our usual gorgeous selves.
The map I made to show the kids where we came from.
The gappies last year sung Waltzing Matilda, so we couldn't sing it again, and we could hardly get everybody to sing the national anthem, so instead we taught them "Give me a home amoung the gum trees." And we put actions to it. Jumping like a kangaroo onstage is probably one of my most embarrasing moments.... Here we are mid-gumtree.
Humiliation aside, it was fun, and the kids were so excited to receive their mini koalas and kangaroos that it was worth it.
